Best way to get rid of Washing Machine odors with Affresh Washing Machine Cleaner
If you own a front loading washing machine, chances are you are going to eventually get that horrible rotten egg smell or some odor coming from the laundry room.
Affresh washing machine cleaner can resolve this issue.
Washing machines build up residue that sits on the rim of machine. While front loading machines tend to clean your clothes much better than top loaders, this is one of the drawbacks. I remember our old top loader never encountered this odor problem until years of use.
Mold and gunk thrives in wet and dark environments, so by design, the washing machine is a perfect breeding ground. So getting rid of mold and build up is essential. We all leave the door open to let it air out, but it still builds up over time.
We tried the Vinegar and baking soda tricks. Both worked a little bit and while the vinegar works, you may end up with clothes smelling like vinegar instead. Using Clorox wipes bunched up over the spots can help as well.
Also, there is section in most devices where stagnant water will sit. You do not have access to this area so you just have to wait for the next cycle to run to flush out the old water with new water.
To clean the gasket, you can use a 50/50 mix of bleach and water. If it is stubborn, you can soak a disposable towel with the mixture and set it in the gasket for 20 minutes or so. Then pull the disposable towel out and scrub it with an old toothbrush.
You can order a replacement gasket when the gets to the point of no return.
I start by wiping out as much of the gunk that builds up under the lip of the rubber seal. A simple wet paper towel with a little bit of detergent can get rid of some of the initial sludge. When we first had the smell, this is all I needed to do in the beginning and the smell would go away. I have read that people are experiencing the smell with brand new washers in as little as 3 months. There are probably a number of factors involved like a damp basement, number loads, amount of air circulating, etc.
Use Affresh Washing Machine Cleaner
To use the Affresh tablets, simply put them in the drum and run it on a normal load. Set your washing machine to use Hot water and let it run as long as possible. Depending on your washing machine (i.e. Whirlpool), you may have a “Sanitize” setting or something similar.
This is great to use after washing a dog bed or something with heavy dirt as well.
Set it for a 2 rinse cycles after the wash cycle and that does the trick. When it is done, the odors and stenches are gone!
